Position: Postdoctoral Research Fellow- Statistical Genetics

Research Area:

statistical genetics

Full/Part Time: Full Time

Platform: Neale

Date Posted: 2015-11-10

Description:

Our mission is to identify the genetic drivers of neuropsychiatric disorders in order to uncover novel biology and provide the foundation for the development of effective research and treatment strategies. We use large-scale sequencing and genome-wide association studies to identify these genetic risk factors, and develop statistical methods through which the relationship between genetic variants and disease can be better interrogated. These efforts are among the largest in the world and are part of vibrant international research collaborations.

We are seeking creative and highly motivated individuals who want to work in a dynamic, multi-disciplinary research environment.

Send CV’s to: Ben Neale (bneale@broadinstitute.org) and Elise Robinson (erobinson@atgu.mgh.harvard.edu)

Responsibilities:

We are seeking a postdoctoral research fellow in statistical genetics who will be responsible for developing novel methods for the analysis of genetic data and applying these methods to identify genetic risk factors.

The ideal candidate should be broadly conversant with quantitative approaches to data analysis, including but not limited to statistical genetic methods.

Requirements:

Qualified candidates should have:
• A Ph.D. in Statistical Genetics, Biostatistics, Genetic Epidemiology, Computational Biology, Statistics, Mathematics or a related field
• Proficiency in one or more statistical or scripting languages appropriate for scalable data analysis
• Comfort and experience with programming for big data analysis
• Ability to communicate scientific material and collaborate well

Position: Postdoctoral Fellow2

Description:

Currently, we have several fully funded postdoc positions available – details will be updated here as new roles become available.

Requirements:

We’re always open to enquiries about graduate student or postdoctoral positions. In general, we’re looking for people with a strong computational background capable of dealing with very large genomic data-sets, or with a sufficiently quantitative background to be able to quickly pick up high-level computational skills. Direct experience with DNA or RNA sequencing data is a major plus. Most importantly, we’re looking for people who are passionate about the translation of genomics into clinical practice, and have the right personality to work in a fast-paced and highly collaborative environment.

Description:

Making sense of genetic variation leveraging tens of thousands of human exomes.

Responsibilities:

Working with local and international partners as part of the Exome Aggregation Consortium we have aggregated sequencing data from nearly 100,000 humans. We’re looking for smart, data-savvy developers and computational biologists to help us convert these data into useful information about human biology and disease. This will require individuals with substantial expertise in handling and mining big data, and in the biological interpretation of genetic variation.
